Today desktops should be controlled and administrated in each phase of their operational use. These days computers are not only installed once in their lifespan of three to five years, instead they are frequently migrated, re-installed or de-installed. Sever-based computing /thin-client solutions

Work is makes most economic sense if you keep the cost as low as possible for your objectives. This principle is the basis for server-based computing. This means that whereas for server-based computing the servers bring together all the applications that are relevant to the company or department, the terminals only have the functions that are required by each user for their direct work. The work is stored on the servers – only screen updates, keyboard entries and mouse clicks take place on the terminals, the thin clients. For server-based computing pre-defined servers in the corporate network not only provide the familiar file, printing and connectivity services, they also store the relevant applications. This is possible because of the enormous increases in computing and memory capacity on modern servers, as well as their functionality and reliability as demonstrated by the models in the MAXDATA PLATINUM range. This means that the thin clients' features are kept to a minimum and the servers undertake the "donkey work".

The benefits are obvious. Because now only clicks and screen content are transferred, i.e. very low data volumes, this only requires very low bandwidth for transferring data. In addition the costs fall because the administration effort is much lower than for the classic "fat clients". Furthermore security is increased through server-based computing solutions because business-critical data and applications normally stay on the server for server-based computing and are therefore consistent and protected from third-party attack. In addition, if a client fails productivity can be restored immediately by simply replacing the hardware.
